About Vi Wickam
Vi Wickam has been fiddling as long as he can remember.As a child, Vi performedwith the Wickam Family band at venues around Northern Colorado, including a stint as the Blinky’s Fun Club house band.
Vi left Northern Colorado in 1995 to attend the University of Evansville, playing viola in the University Orchestra. Vi also founded and organized the the Evansville String Quartet, playing classical and popular music at Weddings and dinner parties.
Vi has taught fiddle lessons since he was a high school student, and has always been inspired by seeing the success of his students.
Over the past 10 years, Vi has directed fiddle contests, including the Indiana State Picking and Fiddling Championships, and is a frequent fiddle contest judge, including the Western Open Fiddling Contest, the Indiana State Fair, and the Grand Lakes National Fiddle Contest.
Vi moved back to his home state of Colorado in 2009, and has thoroughly enjoyed the change of location. He currently plays fiddle for the bluegrass band, Neargrass Junction, and enjoys playing individual shows with Brent Hawley. He has recently opened for Lonesome Traveler and Canadian Fiddle Star, April Verch.
Vi is in process of recording his first album since his debut in 1996. This album is due out in January 2011, and will feature Brent Hawley, Jim Abraham, and Chris Beers, with special features by Kristianne Gale and Mandy Harvey.
